2008 Woodie Awards
The Longwood men's basketball team started its season Friday night, Nov. 14, in Willett Hall with an 87-44 thrashing of the Cavaliers from UVA Wise. The home side was packed with excited students, families who watched the Lancers take an early 14-4 lead. Senior Ryan Bogan scored eight consecutive points with back-to-back threes and a jumper.
Last week voters in California passed Proposition 8, which redefines marriage. The California State Constitution will now read, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." The newly-passed legislation eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry.
Freshmen have to live on campus, can't bring a car, cannot join a fraternity or sorority until second semester and are the last to register for classes. This are a handful of the many privileges that students do not get until they are an upperclassman.
Let's have a discussion. Currently around the country, 130 presidents and chancellors at colleges and universities are supporting what is called the Amethyst Initiative. The Initiative is an effort put forth by these administrators to increase discussion and debate on whether to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18, plain and simple.
